Maxine Bigby Cunningham is the July 2011 Author in the Spotlight for The Christian AOT Network! Cunningham, the author of Power Walking: A Journey to Wholeness, is also a staunch advocate for mental health awareness. Through the publication of her book, she has built a platform to help reduce the stigma regarding mental illness within faith communities and communities of color. A wellness advocate and inspirational speaker, Cunningham travels the country inspiring others who seek to overcome impediments to wellness.
Now available as a Kindle eBook, Power Walking: A Journey to Wholeness is a testimony of Cunningham's victory over mental health impediments that blocked her own path to healing and wholeness. She has written for various publications including the November/December 2010 Optimal Living Magazine and appeared in numerous educational videos produced by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
Cunningham has over 36 years experience as a Senior Executive with the federal government and community-based nonprofits. Her contributions in Christian education, community engagement and mental health advocacy have been recognized by a variety of national and local organizations including the Maryland Baptist Congress of Christian Education, NAMI and Goucher College. Cunningham is also a 2010 graduate of the Baltimore School of the Bible.
